Posted by: The Luminaire May 2 2003, 11:52 PM All right guys, since every other game I play, someone poses a question about socketing, cubing, crafting, ect, I decided I'd just write up a legible guide here, and make it easy on everyone. Parts of this have been copied from the readme, and Ill just be making sense of them. My notes are within the ** marks. *Update, added ring/ammy recipie, and sword/chipps recipie. Still parsing through the bugs forum for the broken crafts.* *Update #2, 1.1 out, and a few things changed, so Ill mes with this, and make it up to date.* --------------------------------------- Just plain Cubing Recipies: 3 rings = 1 amulet 3 amulets = 1 ring *Pleast note with this recipie, as stated at the Arreat Summit: The ilvl=[(3*CharacterLevel)/4]+3. This means at Character Level 65, ilvl=51.75. So any Magical Prefix or Suffix with a level of 51 and below might be available. So even at lvl 99, it would be impossible to cube ilvl 90(the highest#)affixes. Works the same with rings, so some ultra-high level affixes wont be available. As far as I know, this hasnt been changed for 7L, so please post if this is not the case.* One Magic Sword + 3 chipped gems = One Magic sword of same type, with random mods, and 3 sockets. *As stated by Brujo here, you arent gonna get your cruel sword if you're using crap from normal. The mods that come out are dependent on the ilvl of the weapon, or what level monster dropped it. The higher the ilvl, the wider the mod pool. This doesnt mean _better_ affixes, just more to choose from; so dont complain if it takes you a while to get that cruel ;-)* Socketing Cube Recipies: these recipies allow you to add sockets to normal (non-superior), magical, and rare items. *This is pretty self explanitory. Please note that just because you pick up an item, and use the correct recipie, doesnt mean you'll get the listed sockets. Most items dont get their max number of sockets until picked up in NM or Hell. Only then is the ilvl high enough, so make sure you have the right item, from the right place, before you start whining ;-)* 2 cracked gems + any normal item -> socketed normal item 4 cracked gems + any normal item -> 2 socket item 2 cracked gems + 2 flawed gems + any normal item -> 3 socket item 4 flawed gems + any normal item -> 4 socketed item 2 flawed gems + 2 normal gems + any normal item -> 5 socketed item 4 normal gems + any normal item -> 6 socketed item 2 normal gems + 2 flawless gems + any magic armor -> 1 socket magic armor 4 flawless gems + any magic armor -> 2 socket magic armor 4 flawless gems + any magic weapon -> 1 socket magic weapon 2 flawless gems + 2 perfect gems + any magic weapon -> 2 socket magic weapon 2 perfect gems + 2 flawless gems + any rare armor -> 1 socket rare armor 4 perfect gems + any rare weapon -> 1 socket rare weapon Rune Cubing: 3 of any rune will cube to the next highest rune, all the way up to Alt, #30. *Again, pretty basic. Check the rune listing, if you want to see what the runes do.* Etheral Cubing: *Also pretty basic, no comment here.* 3 flawless gems + a magical ethereal item = reroll the magic ethereal, also resetting the durability 3 perfect gems + rare ethereal item = reroll the rare ethereal, also resetting the durability Crafting: There are seven crafting series, with 3 levels, and this is subdivided twice for armor and weapons. Each series has a particular gem associated with it that is used in recipies. All crafts will also require a rune which is different per level and series. These replace the old crafting recipies. *Now here comes the fun part. =D For note, trying to create a table to get the item types to make sense proved futile on here. So I made the image that you see attached at the bottom. Also, some of the crafts dont work as of 1.07, but Im not positive on which ones do and dont. Post back with the info, so I can ammend the list.* Generic Crafts: all of these work on any weapon or armor. The level of affixes is 30% of your clvl + 30% of the item level. *Anything goes here. Put any _magic_ item, the correct gem, and rune, and the Jewel into the cube, and Viola! Dont forget the Jewel, as that is the most common mishap.* Magic item + Jewel + Flawless Gem + Rune Magic Armor + Jewel + Normal Gem + Rune Specific Crafts: these work on specific rare weapon and armor types. Level of affixes is 60% of your clvl + 30% of the ilvl. *Now it starts to get interesting. Here, you can only use certain types of items, only the ones listed below. Each of the 6 class crafts has its own differant set of items/armors that can be used. Only those listed items, and they must be _rare_, will work with that specific craft, and no other. And dont forget that Jewel!* Rare item + Jewels + 2 Perfect Gem + Rune Rare Armor + Jewel + Perfect Gem + Rune Greater Crafts: these work on even more specific rare weapon/armor types. Half of them are for class-specifics. Affix level is 85% of your clvl, 10% of the ilvl. *Here, we get even slimmer, but in theory, better results. More on that as it develops =P. Here, the same thing applies as with the specifc crafts. Each of the 6 Greater Crafts has one or two items associated with it. Only those items will work with that craft class. Also, Greater crafts are the only crafts that _dont_ use a jewel. * Rare item + 3 Perfect Gems + Rune Rare Armor + 3 Perfect Gems + Rune Gems Required: Knowledge: Sapphire Entrophy: Emerald Hatred: Ruby Greed: Topaz Gossamer: Diamond Chaos: Amethyst Deadly: Skull Runes Required(#, Description): Series Generic Specific Greater Knowledge: #16, Spirituality #19, Water #30, Essence Entrophy: #10, Infinity #18, Time #26, Despair Hatred: #15, Body #20, Fire #28, Pain Greed: #12, Fame #22, Earth #24, Consumption Gossamer: #13, Friendship #17, Life #27, Darkness Chaos: #14, Curiosity #23, Void #29, Fear Deadly: #11, Haste #21, Air #25, Death *SO! To get this to make some sense, lets do some examples, okies? =) Lets do a Generic Knowledge craft. So, what do we need? Ill use the armor recipie, and we'll use a magic sash. Now, remember, for generic crafts, you can use anything; I just use a sash for display purposes. Oh joy. So, one Yob rune, #16, one normal Sapphire, one jewel; it can be any kind, doesnt matter; and our trusty _magic_ sash. Dump all them in the cube, press the magic button! Lets do another, Shall we? This time a specific craft. How about Entropy? Allright then. Lets do some more armor; A Specific Entropy craft allows us to use a necro head, a bone helm, or a bone/spiked shield. I chose a bone helm, to compliment our sash; but remember, for specific and greater crafts, it must be a rare item. Now, one rare bone helm, one Ven rune, #18, one perfect Emerald, one jewel; again any kind doesnt matter. There we have it, another craft all done! Now one final time, a Greater craft. Supposedly the best of the best. Supposedly, but more on that another time. ;-) Lets do Hatred, and we need a weapon. So, we get to make a nice big Axe to go with our bone helm and sash. As with specific crafts, the item must be rare, so we start with a rare axe, add 3 perfect rubies, add one Nau, #28. No Jewel this time. Mix it all up, bake in one Horadric cube for...well, only a moment. Simple as pie. Really not as complicated as it seems. Just take one item from each matching craft class, from each list, put them all in the cube, and you're set. Hope this helps!* Posted by: Mr.Cole May 3 2003, 01:43 AM Wow... crafting really makes sense... heh, it was pretty weird thing for me... until now Thanke Posted by: Brujo May 3 2003, 02:32 AM A well known, but sometimes forgotten recipe, is the magic sword recipe: 3 chips(any kind but skull) + magic sword (blue) = magic sword with new mods* + 3 sockets *new mods are dependent on the ilvl/mlvl of the monster that dropped the sword (What this means is the higher the level of the monster that dropped the sword, the better the chance it has of getting good/usable mods.) For some reason people always seem to forget about this recipe. It's a great way for new/poor characters to make decent weapons. Just remember, if you cube crap your gonna get crap. With this in mind. Choose your sword wisely. If you have other characters that are in higher acts or difficulty levels, get the swords from there and then hand them back to your lower level characters. The best place to get swords is from act 5 hell difficulty vendors or drops from act 5 monsters. The ultimate place to get swords to cube is from Baal himself. Next time your partied with a group and they decide to make a Baal run, feel free to take the blue swords that everyone always thinks is crap and leaves behind unidentified. Another good place to get blue magic swords is from the cow level and Cow King. (I'm unsure of the Cow King's mlvl.) If you don't have higher level characters or are new to the realm, just find a new sword from some champs or bosses you have recently slain and keep cubing that sword until you leave that act or defeat a tougher boss. If you move to another act or higher difficulty level, dump the sword/swords you have been cubing and get a new one to cube from that act. This will also ensure that you will be able to use the sword that you are cubing. (If you are only in act 1 normal and cubing a crystal sword from hell Baal, it may get some good mods that you won't be able to use until you are clvl 30, 40 or 50+.) If you are in act 4 don't keep cubing the sword you found in act 1. Also well know, but less popular, are the ring/ammy recipes: 3 rings (blue) = amulet 3 amulets (blue) = ring It never fails to amuse me when people complain they have no gear to start off with and leave stuff behind. This is the simplest of recipes to use. Once again, just remember, If you cube crap, your gonna get crap. Keep cubing rings and amulets as the drop for you. Just be sure you dump them when you move to a new act and find a new batch to cube. This will ensure that the mods you get will be useful or usable by your clvl. When you are starting off a new character, chips, rings, ammys and blue swords are plentiful. Get out there, get to act 2, get your cube and start making things happen for your characters. Don't whine and complain when you have no gear or your not getting any good drops. If you can't find good gear, just make it. BRUJO Posted by: CoviTical May 3 2003, 02:55 AM Nice guide, and explained to me as I was a child: love it! Posted by: Vincent_Ranok May 3 2003, 03:03 AM most impresive Lum! Thanks to Brujo as well, for the very cool sword recipe...I ran off to Act 5 right after reading it. It ALMOST makes you wish that the game had NO uniques or rares... - The Doc Craftologist Posted by: ManaCraft May 3 2003, 07:57 AM QUOTE (Brujo @ May 3 2003, 09:32 AM) 3 chips(any kind but skull) + magic sword (blue) = magic sword with new mods* + 3 sockets Skulls are considered gems for all intents and purposes, including cube recipies. ManaCraft Posted by: XdrewX Dec 16 2004, 09:45 PM 2 chipped gems + 2 flawed gems = 3 socketed normal item does not work. 4 normal gems + normal item = 5 sockets does not work. Posted by: Wein_C Dec 16 2004, 10:33 PM Note the date on the post...this was for a previous patch. Posted by: Mephista Dec 16 2004, 10:56 PM The correct info for socketing is found in the 7L readme. =) Posted by: mmmmmmmBacon Dec 17 2004, 12:01 AM Can someone edit the original post so I don't have to go seeking into the readme to find all the crafting shtuff? The readme is really a pain to read, since it doesn't have any decent catagorization. Posted by: Zaranthos Apr 26 2005, 02:16 PM 3 perfect gems + rare ethereal gloves won't re-roll. Imbued some ethereal colossus gauntlets and I can't seem to find a re-roll that works. Tried three flawless, 1 of each(flawless, perfect), 2 of each, 3 of each. Tried 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 flawless and perfect. Nothing works. Only works on weapons... Rat %$@^#$....
