Several adventurers, many of them with very little or no combat experience at all, have travelled up the dangerous road to the Rogue's camp and made their beds there. While this is in itself is hardly news at all, since the Sister's plee for help has made it far across the realm, and many feel compelled to lend aid, the adventurers we are talking about here are of a different breed. In stark contrast to their brave and selfless fellow journeymen, the men and women of this new wave of adventurers is hardly interested in going out to slay the evil that plagues the land around the Rogue's camp. At least, not for a while ... Instead, these travellers stay well inside the camp perimeter for days. Another marked difference with their more daring compatriots, is that invariably, the new adventurerer is rich ... hugely so. While the typical would-be hero arrives in the Rogue's camp without hardly a coin of gold on them, the "rich kid" arrives with many quantities of the stuff. It is not uncommon for these wealthy travellers to bring in excess of 100k gold with them. Far often than not, one sees some poor mule carrying the heavy burden. So what is all this gold for ? The answer comes quickly. Inside the Rogue's camp, a caravan of wandering merchants has taken up residence. Unable to travel over the Mountain Pass as long as the Rogue monastery is under Demon control, the merchants try to make a living by selling their goods and services to the Rogues and any other people that come to the place. One such merchant holds the interest of every single one of our wealthy adventurers. His name is Gheed, and he owns a gambling shop. Since a few days, this man has started earning more profit than ever before in his life. All of the rich kids love him. From early morning to late evening, sometimes even well into the night, they spent their entire time gambling all their money away at Gheed's. The gambling only stops when either the money runs out, in which case the unfortunate soul, now poor as a beggar, departs for home, or the stars align and the betting fool gets what he's looking for. Now gambling for useful items is nothing new. Many of us do it, in search of a nice rare item to help us out in the struggle with the evil hordes. But what drives these particular gamblers, is the search for just a few, very specific items. Since it is possible to gamble unique items, gambling for them is often the best way to come up with them. There are a few low-level uniques that are easily gambled for, and are very powerful for a starting character. Uniques that are thus very sought after are : Firewalker Short Bow Requires level 2 +3-6 Fire Damage 12 Fire Damage per Character Level +10-20% Increased Attack Speed +33 to AR +15% to Fire Resist Socketed (2) Fires Explosive Arrows An amazing piece of equipment. Useable by any character from level 2 onwards, the scaling fire damage and the explosive arrows make short work of any foes until late normal difficulty. The 2 sockets are just gravy. Note that IAS on the bow is variable. This bow enables character builds with high-level skills (Hydra Sorcs, Fist of the Heavens Pallies, etc.) to get to the point where they can start using their planned skills. This bow also fits as the end-bow for very specific builds, (mageazons, ranger pallies, bowanecro's) due to the fact that it is the only bow that fires explosive arrows, which have auto-hit. The bow also makes for a very happy Rogue companion. It is readily available, since a clvl 1 char can gamble this bow at 711 gold per try. I wouldn't be surprised to see an invasion of Firewalkers on the realm soon. It might be a good idea to make this bow somewhat rarer (swap its stats with a higher level bow ?), unless we want normal difficulty to become a bit of a joke. Defender of the Forge Studded Leather Requires level 9 +20 Life +20 DR +11% to Fire Resist +3% to Maximum Fire Resist +4-7% Absorb Fire +5-6 Fire Damage 16 Fire Damage per Character Level Socketed (3) Another goodie. Even higher scaling fire damage per clvl than on Firewalker. The life bonus is nice at low character levels, and the fire resist coupled with absorb does alot for your fire resists. The 3 sockets allow for easy customizing. Imagine a Firewalker/Defense of the Forge combo ... then imagine the same thing on your Rogue. You can try gambling for this from clvl 3 onwards, at about 2k gold per try. That makes it somewhat rarer than Firewalker, which is a good thing. Featherdance Sash(L) Requires level 5 +33 DR +12 Life +12 Mana +12% to All Resists +1% to Maximum All Resists +1 to DR per Character Level +0.25% Increased Magic Find per Character Level Life, mana and resist all. Good DR bonus and a bit of MF. An all-around useful sash. Should not be hard to get. The Seeking Crown Skull Cap Requires level 8 Socketed (1) +3% Chance of Deadly Strike +5% Increased Attack Speed +0.875 to AR per Character Level +50% DR +5 Dexterity +20% Chance to Pierce IAS, and chance to pierce. Nice dex and AR bonus. Chance of deadly strike. One socket for customizing. I bet Zons will love this. Kjon's Mirror Small Shield Requires level 8 Attacker Takes Damage of +3 per Character Level Socketed (2) min to 10 Replenish Life +0.25 Life per Character Level +1 to (certain skill, TODO) +10% to Poison Resist +3 to Light Radius Nice scaling thorns damage, 2 sockets and some other mods. I have no idea what skill that is, since I haven't got this one yet. Crushing Rage Mace Requires level 13 +1% Chance of Crushing Blow per Character Level (NOT CORRECT - Open Wounds instead !) +20-30% Faster Hit Recovery +0.625 to AR per Character Level +2.5% Enhanced Damage per Character Level +10-100% Enhanced Durability This would have been a very nice weapon, but the listed mods as you can find them on this site are wrong ! I gambled this mace yesterday, and to my dismay discovered that instead of Crushing Blow, the weapon delivers Open Wounds. I'm puzzled by this one, as per the name of this item Crushing Blow would make more sense. There go my hopes for a Mace Barb. Is this a bug, or were the stats on this item changed between versions ? The Inharmony Heavy Boots Requires level 11 +3 Minimum Fire Damage +9 Maximum Fire Damage Damage Reduced by +2 Magic Damage Reduced by +1 Attacker Takes Damage of +1.5 per Character Level +15% to Fire Resist 35 Charges of Level 8 (certain skill, TODO) Fire damage, scaling Thorns damage, fire resist, MDR and PDR. Looks nice. No idea on the charges yet. There may be others that I missed. Although some of these items are somewhat too powerful in normal difficulty, their usefulness in nightmare and beyond quickly fades (with the exception of Firewalker for builds centered around its auto-hitting arrows). And finally : you can still do well in normal difficulty just by shopping for magical items, or gambling for rares. However, if you have loads of cash lying around, it's worth a try to gamble for these uniques. Cheers, Gillias. I believe that's a D2 display bug. Heh..I've come across that before. And as for a couple of scaling Fire Damage stats, those numbers need to be divided. The script that aurikan used to pull the data out of the files left the number as is..most of the per clev stats need to be divided by 8...meaning 12 is really 1.5, 16 is really 2, and so on. I'm aware that some of the stuff still needs fixed..:/ Just need to get it done..:/ Nice post Gilias, loved the story I was going to post something on that "Firewalker" epidemics myself since I'm among the ones who started it. I mean - yesterday there were 7 different chars using that specific bow on the realms. That's scary. First - one note - while the bow is good for starting it won't get you too far without damage adders. Elemental damage adders can be found on armor and rings, important levels are 8 and 16. After that - only poison can be useful. I use a 2 P emerald one with lots of + poison on gear. The bow is really useful even later for specific builds (thinking mostly of my venomsin but also a HS ranger - this one needs better discussion). Sins can add BoS, summoners minions for tanking. In act V it starts to become uneffective - still it got you there with no skill or stat points required. I use to pair it with the seeking crown for the 20% pierce. I totally agree with your "delicate" call for nerf make it the unique short battle bow for instance - harder to gamble, higher level reqs. Anyway, an autohit normal bow should be left in the game in my opinion. The other items: 1. Defender of the forge - cool black color on druids 2. Featherdance - Wow - Got to get me one soon for Eowyn (the MF/level part) 3. Seeking crown - The pierce is only 20% but it's all you can get from gear I mean ever (except for higher uniques). The scaling AR is also very nice 4. Crushing rage - checked the txt file - It's writted crush/level - test it - maybe it's just a display bug. 5. Kjon mirror - The Todo skill is thorns 6. The Inharmony boots - Charges are of Psychic hammer. Indeed Usyr, the fire damage per level is a lot lower than shown here - therefore not impressive. There are other interesting uniques: the quilted armor (if only CTC would work !), the club (raven charges) and so on - let the players discover the others by themselves Earendil Posted by: DeathByDesign Mar 11 2003, 07:29 AM ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh that blue is evil Posted by: Dr.Gawdly Mar 11 2003, 08:52 AM Yo, DD............sweetest of avatars, dude! - Dr.Gawdly The Doctor is Jealous !
